FAWE/MCF Scholars from Rwanda give back to their community – Forum for African Women Educationalists: FAWE
FAWE scholars in Rwanda came together to give back to their community in an act of charity. The scholars, drawn from different campuses namely: INES-Ruhengeri, College of Medicine and Health Sciences and Rwamagana Campus, pooled together resources to support 39 boys and girls (between the ages of 6-20 years) with disabilities at Saint Vincent de Paul Children Rehabilitation Center in Musanze / Rwanda.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions a delegation of 20 scholars along with their mentors participated in the visit held on 28th February 2021 under the theme of ‘Covid-19 and persons with disabilities’. Scholars sensitized the children on COVID-19 preventive measures and motivated the children to focus on their goals and dreams despite all the challenges they face due to the pandemic. Besides mentorship, they provided the children with food, clothes, sanitary materials, and seven pairs of shoes for the most vulnerable. The Scholars shared snacks and words of motivation and encouragement while listening to the children’s visions and dreams. The children and the director of the center appreciated the care and love shown through the give-back activities.
